 Good news: the Winter Sessions Tour, organized by DJ Uncle Joe, is coming back to the Alps this winter for over 40 events, with Chamonix as the nightlife-Mecca of the mountains. Winter Sessions will put on bi-monthly parties in Le Podium, next to the ice rink in Chamonix town. As usual, they’ll bring the ‘fattest’ sound system of the valley and cutting edge 3D visuals!!!
The Winter Sessions Tour will kick off on the 18th of December, and will immediately move on to host a massive New Years Eve party. You can buy tickets for this event from the 1st of December at the LPC office and many more places in town.

If you are like most seasonaires in the Chamonix Valley, you probably don’t have much money but you still want/need some gear for up the mountain. A good idea would be to check out the Bourse aux Ski on the 21st of November in Les Pelerins at the Jacques Balmat school (hospital road) from 2pm on. You can find lots of crap here (good for the inevitable fancy dress nights) but they do sell some good stuff too. Nothing is above 400€, and there is everything you might need up the hill like poles, helmets, bindings, ski’s, snowboards etc.
It is also possible to sell your old stuff (if it is in good condition). All you need to do is get your ass down to the school between 8 and 11am and register your stuff.

The snowline has been dropping and dropping in Chamonix, and everybody is talking about the season to come: winter. Ski area Les Grands Montets usually opens during the weekends before it's planned opening on the 18th of December if there is enough snow. And Les Houches tends to open early as well. We're hoping it will be the same this year, but if not, there is another possibility to enjoy some early snow fun. If you've bought an Unlimited pass of 6 days or more, the ski resort of Verbier is included in the pass. And Verbier might open its Lac de Vaux area on the 8th of November. Autumn has arrived in the Chamonix valley, and this time last year the first snow was falling. In town, talk about the new winter ski season has started and most talks include early snowfall and a cold winter. The ducks are getting all excited and we can’t wait for Les Grands Montets to open its lifts. We’ve done a little research for you to see when you can expect to get your gear out of storage and head up the hill. Bear in mind that Les Grands Montets will open during the weekends if there is enough snow before the official opening date! Now let’s put our hands together and pray.
For now, the opening dates of the Chamonix ski and snowboard areas are planned as follows:
Les Grands Montets: 5 December (only during the weekend, full opening 18 December)
Le Tour and Vallorcine: 19 December
Brévent and Flégère: 19 December

The Compagnie du Mont Blanc, who had a turnover of 57.5 million euros in 2006/2007, has presented the prices to the Mairie of Chamonix. And as every year, the lift passes will be more expensive: 8.8% increase in the price for the Chamonix Le Pass will cost you 800€ for the winter season, which is almost a 9% increase. The damage for the Mont Blanc Unlimited will be 1250€, which is a staggering 16% increase.
The Chamonix Le Pass will give you access to the ski areas Le Balme (le tour and Vallorcine), Brévent-Flégère and Les Grands Montets (except for the top lift).
The Mont Blanc Unlimited pass will also give you unlimited and free access to the top lift of Les Grands Montets, the Aiguille du Midi (from which you can do the famous Vallée Blanche descent), Montenvers train, Tramway du Mont Blanc, Les Houches and Verbier in Switzerland. Discounts on the Mont Blanc Tunnel and free access to the ski area of Courmayeur and the Funivie Monte Bianco in Italy are still being negociated. New this season: access to the 4-valley pass included!
Don’t forget that November 30th is the magic date, as the Chamonix Le Pass will cost you 520€ and the Mont Blanc Unlimited will be 750€ before this date. Passes can be ordered online from now on, and will be available from the Montenvers ticket office from the 24th of October!!!
